Enclosure of the Punt Field

At this time of its enclosure in 1774 the majority of land in the Punt Field (25 of the 31 acres) was already owned by Powlett Wrighte. The other landowners were Mrs Powell (2 acres), Thomas Powell (2 acres), Timothy Pearce (2 rods) and Thomas Draper (2 rods). This pattern of ownership contrasts sharply with that in the earliest plan (tentatively dated to about 1690) which shows only six parcels allocated to Francis Paulet.

When the field was enclosed these minor landowners received land elsewhere in exchange for these allotments so that the Punt Field became exclusively the property of Powlett Wrighte.
