Nathan Wrighte

The Nathan Wright commemorated by this memorial on the south wall of the aisle was the son of the Reverend Nathan Wrighte and Anne Powlett, and brother to Powlett Wrighte who inherited Englefield in 1729. Francis and Anne, also commemorated, were siblings of Powlett and Nathan.

When Powlet Wrighte died of smallpox in 1741 his son Powlett came into the estate and when he died childless in 1779 it passed to his uncle Nathan until his death ten years later.

On Nathan’s death Englefield went to Richard Benyon, Powlett’s half brother by his mother Mary Tyssen’s second marriage to Richard Benyon of Gidea.
